Is there anyone out there who hasn’t listened to Simon Sinek’s TED talk, “How great leaders inspire action?”.
For those who haven’t had a chance to watch his 2009 talk, here is the basic premise of his “golden circle” approach:
All businesses define themselves by what they do and how they do it, but very few really know why. As Sinek repeats often in the talk: “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.”
Start with why: Inspire Others
It might seem like a simple idea, but figuring out why you do something can require some work, because it can take time to distill all the many thoughts you have around what you do, and the motivations behind it.
Do you know why you do what you do?
We do. At Discover Financial Consultants we’ve given a lot of thought to our why, and it isn’t just about selling insurance. Of course, that’s what we do, but why we do it really comes down to people.
Do people believe what you believe?
We don’t want just anyone to sell finance. While of course we want to sell our products, our broader aim is to create an optimal customer experience by making sure that our customers only work with brokers who feel like they’re a valuable part of our business.
So what’s our why?
We sell insurance and life insurance because we want people to feel empowered about their financial future, and to know that they have the support of a broker who isn’t only good at their job, but feels part of something bigger- a business that wants to grow with its people.
